And the Fests continue

Sunday, May 11th, 2008

Every day we come home frustrated that something has not gone off well, never has and never will. It fells like you are banging your head against the wall, and then we say, “I don’t know why, but I will miss this place”.

Final Thoughts on Peqin

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Peqin is behind us and as we think about our stay there, we are surprised at how comfortable it had become. Through our community project, we had planning and work sessions which were held at the local coffee bars. As a result, we visited nearly all the coffee bars, which was no small feat, and were an accepted part of the scene by the time we left. (more…)

We’ve had our one week visit to Durres, our permanent site, and will be going back there permanently on June 18th. It’s been a great success. Internet Access

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

Well internet access is not exactly what we had anticipated.  In the community we are living in, Peqin, there are no internet cafes.  In fact, there are no high-speed connections anywhere.  A few families have dialup service, but it seems to be rare.  At least once a week, we get into a larger city, Elbasan, and there we can get access to the internet at the local internet cafes.  Criss has also set up a wireless access point (more…)

Hello from Albania

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

We made it! After long hours of travel and inservice training, we are finally here and are adjusting well to our new lives in this wonderful country. There are 38 other volunteers here with us in this group who will be working in teaching English, public health, or community development (like us). Seven of us are living in the town of Peqin (pe-CHEEN). The two of us are living with a wonderful family (more…)
